Group Chaplaincy: Journeying Through Motherhood

Journeying Through Motherhood
Mondays, January 22nd - February 26th
12:30 - 2 pm ET

Program description

This program is for anyone who identifies as a mother and wants to reflect upon motherhood in a non-judgmental group setting. We will use sacred reading practices and deep listening as we accompany one another in reflections on our personal experiences of motherhood — with its physical, mental, emotional and spiritual highs and lows — and offer encouragement to one another as we explore how to live more fully into our values.

Facilitated by trained chaplain, Rebecca Ledley, this group will be a space for us to hear one another's personal experiences, practice deep-listening, and employ sacred reading practices to help us go deeper and surface the wisdom of the group.

More Info

Literary chaplaincy is inspired by traditional chaplaincy, but with the use of secular texts, not religious ones. We take the stories already at the center of your life and, through rigor and intention, help you discover their power to guide you as personal sacred texts.

Together we’ll consider questions like: What surprised you about motherhood? How has motherhood changed you? What do you miss, and how are you coping with that? What values of yours feel like they are in conflict? How have your values changed?

What is Literary Chaplaincy?

Literary Chaplaincy is a support service developed by Vanessa Zoltan. Inspired by traditional chaplaincy, literary chaplains listen with the care of a good friend, but with the remove and fresh perspective only a well-trained counselor can provide. They approach your concerns with an open heart, asking clarifying and probing questions to help you find resolution about complex dilemmas. Where traditional chaplaincy would use a religious text, literary chaplaincy uses secular books, demonstrating their sacred power by applying sacred reading practices to them.
