Course description

Are you interested in publishing a novel? Do you want to explore the multitude of publishing possibilities out there? 

Join Mackenzi Lee, the New York Times-bestselling author of The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, for a friendly and detailed guide to navigating the publishing industry! Classes will be primarily lecture-based, featuring several Q&As with industry professionals. Each week, Mackenzi and her colleagues will focus on a different step of the publishing process, giving participants the information necessary to understand their options and a structured space where they can consider what they want from their publishing journey. 

By the end of this six week course, participants will be familiar with the key stages of the publishing process and better equipped to pursue the route to publication that makes the most sense for them.

Participants of all experience levels are invited to join in this course. As long as you’re curious about book publishing, you’re welcome to join us!


The overview

  • Dates: Saturdays from 1-3pm ET, February 17th-March 23rd, 2024

  • Tuition: Sliding scale as follows:

    • full price: $300

    • can’t quite afford full price: $250

    • full price + contribution to scholarship funds for class: $350

  • Scholarships: We will be offering a range of partial scholarships for this course, which you can apply for through this form.

Faculty bio

Mackenzi Lee - Instructor - she/her

Mackenzi Lee holds a BA in history and an MFA from Simmons University in writing for children and young adults. She is the author of ten books, including The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, which was a New York Times bestseller, received a 2018 Stonewall Book Award Honor, and won the New England Book Award; and a series of novels for Marvel which tell the origin story of your favorite MCU antiheroes. She is also the author of two nonfiction books, Bygone Badass Broads and The History of the World in 50 Dogs. She lives in Los Angeles with a dog that's bigger than she is.
